Calibration of Test Equipment in Medical Technology
esz AG calibration & metrology is your trusted partner for the calibration and management of measuring and test equipment used in medical technology. Our customers benefit from decades of experience, comprehensive advice and services specifically tailored to the stringent requirements of this safety-critical sector.
Medical Device Calibration
esz AG calibrates your medical measuring devices from German and international manufacturers reliably, quickly and professionally.
We offer both ISO/factory calibrations and DAkkS-accredited calibrations for test equipment used to perform metrological inspections (MTK) and safety inspections (STK), as well as for all other devices used in medical technology.
HF calibration for surgical equipment testers up to 10 MHz
In medical technology, precise measurement of power, current, impedance and resistance is essential. With the extension of our DAkkS accreditation for the measurands HF power and HF current, we can now also offer accredited calibration for all common connector types at frequencies of up to 10 MHz. The measurement range covers power levels from 2 W to 160 W, currents from 50 mA to 1.8 A and impedance values from 50 Ω to 200 Ω. This ensures reliable and metrologically traceable measurement results.
The newly accredited measurement range is particularly relevant to the calibration of HF surgical equipment testers. For example, we offer accredited calibration for separate 200 Ω connections. This enables us to provide accredited calibration of the key measurands required for these test instruments from a single source, while also covering the technically demanding transition range from DC/low frequency to HF.
With this extension, we are expanding our accredited calibration services to include frequency ranges and connector types for which few or no comparable accredited services are available in Europe.

What are MTK and STK?
The calibration of equipment used for metrological checks (MTK) and safety checks (STK) is carried out in accordance with the German Medical Devices Act (MPG) and the Guideline for Metrological Checks of Medical Devices (LMKM). All other measuring instruments used in medical technology are calibrated in accordance with DKD guidelines, manufacturers’ specifications and the VDI/VDE/DGQ/DKD 2622 guideline.
- MTK is a legally required metrological check for medical measuring devices. It ensures that the device provides accurate measurement results. This includes assessing measurement accuracy, measurement deviation, functionality and compliance with the specified tolerances.
- STK is a legally required safety check for certain medical devices. This includes, for example, testing electrical, mechanical and functional safety to ensure that the device does not pose a risk to patients or users.

An MTK is a statutory metrological verification for specified medical devices with a measuring function, particularly where reliable measurement results are essential for diagnosis or treatment decisions. It is governed by the German Medical Devices Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV).
- Metrological performance
- Measurement error
- Correct functioning
- Compliance with the applicable maximum permissible errors
An MTK is intended to ensure that the device continues to provide measurement results within the applicable maximum permissible errors.
- Non-invasive blood pressure measuring instruments
- Medical thermometers
- Tone and speech audiometers
- Ocular tonometers
- Pedal ergometers
An STK is a statutory safety check for specified active, non-implantable medical devices that could pose a risk if they fail. It is governed by the German Medical Devices Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV).
An STK is intended to ensure that the device is in a safe condition and does not pose an unacceptable risk to patients, users or third parties.

The extended scope is particularly relevant to companies operating in medical technology, test and measurement technology, as well as calibration and testing services. It is also of interest to manufacturers of HF power and test systems and to organisations involved in research and development.
Our services are aimed at manufacturers, operators and service providers of HF power and measuring equipment, as well as manufacturers, service companies and operators of HF surgical equipment testers and HF medical devices. Calibration laboratories and testing service providers can also benefit from the extended scope.
The calibration procedures are particularly relevant to HF surgical equipment testers and HF medical test systems. Further applications include HF power meters for higher power levels as well as measuring instruments for determining alternating currents of up to 1.8 A at frequencies of up to 10 MHz.
In addition to HF surgical equipment testers, our calibration services include, for example, HF current sources, HF current measuring instruments and HF power generators. Measuring instruments and test systems with special connector systems or non-standard impedance values can also benefit from the extended scope.
The calibration of HF surgical equipment testers is particularly subject to the Medical Device Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2017/745 of the European Parliament and of the Council), the German Medical Device Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV) and ISO 13485.
ISO 13485 requires calibrations to be fully traceable to national or international measurement standards. With our accredited calibration services, we ensure metrological traceability and provide transparent, traceable documentation of the calibration.
