Commercial vehicle
The safety inspection is a mandatory visual, performance, and functional inspection for commercial vehicles (vehicle classes M, N, and O) in Germany. The legal basis for this is § 29 StVZO. Proof of passing a safety inspection is provided by the test report (§ 29 (10) StVZO) or the test report of a new general inspection. Commercial vehicles without defects receive an official inspection mark after passing the test. The safety inspection is carried out at prescribed intervals between the respective general inspections. The test intervals depend on the vehicle class. All measuring and testing devices used in safety inspections must be calibrated by an accredited calibration laboratory in accordance with applicable standards. esz AG calibrates wear gauges, door closing and pedal force measuring devices, pressure gauges, and radio pressure transducers for commercial vehicles in state-of-the-art laboratories in accordance with legal standards. The calibration of stationary brake test stands is carried out in esz AG’s Calibration Expert Partner System (CEPS). Pressure gauges and electrical pressure measuring devices can also be calibrated with CEPS. Qualified partners of esz AG in the CEPS (Calibration Expert Partner System) can calibrate their stationary brake test stands independently in a timely manner and in accordance with the legal requirements for automotive testing technology. This also includes the calibration of radio pressure transducers, which are an integral part of the brake test stand infrastructure for commercial vehicles. A reference pressure gauge and a pump for generating pressure are used as test equipment for calibration. In addition, a climate measuring device is required to determine the ambient conditions. esz AG supports its CEPS partners in selecting the measuring devices. Traffic Bulletin 24/2020 No. 190 regulates the calibration of pressure sensors and pressure gauges used for functional testing of compressed air brake systems. According to traffic bulletin 14/2021 No. 149 (BPS guideline 2021), the specification is ±1% FS and the calibration interval is 24 months. The specification is independent of the manufacturer’s specifications. Calibration is performed in accordance with the DKD-R 6-1 guideline. With CEPS, esz AG offers an efficient and safe solution for the calibration of pressure measuring instruments and pressure gauges. In our laboratories, we calibrate pressure gauges up to 25 bar using pressure controllers as test equipment. esz AG offers accredited calibrations up to a maximum of 1000 bar. Door closing force measuring devices determine the forces exerted by closing doors (e.g. on buses) and gates in order to prevent injuries to people who may become trapped. Pedal force measuring devices record the force required to operate a pedal. To simulate the application of force, the measuring devices are positioned on a force plate for calibration and a vertical force is applied to the device. The applied force is then compared with the reading on the test instrument. A full calibration (in accordance with DKD-R 3-3, procedure A) must generally be repeated every 24 months. Wear gauges are metal templates used in safety inspections to measure the wear and tear of parts on commercial vehicles. These can include tow eyes and bolts on trailer couplings, fifth wheel pins, fifth wheel couplings, or coupling balls. Calipers are usually used to calibrate the test equipment. esz AG also has a Keyence multi-sensor measuring system for the automatic calibration of automotive test gauges. In both measuring methods, the calibration technician compares the specified dimensions on the wear test gauge for tolerance. The test intervals are between 12 and 36 months. Esz AG publishes all calibration procedures. You can download the quality management manual here.Safety inspection for commercial vehicle testing equipment
